Alex slept well last night and didn't wake up until 5 am, which isn't too bad. I slept on the sofa again. It's a decent sofa to sleep on, at least. There's an air conditioning machine of some sort that's 5 stories down from out apartment, and every 10 minutes or so it makes a sort of scritching noise as some part or other starts up. Of course, they just recently started it up for the summer again. This morning, before Alex woke up, I heard it several times and it brought back memories of last fall - sitting on the balcony with Alex, sometimes all night, certainly at any hour, trying to get him to fall asleep or stop crying. I remembered being impossibly sleepy, holding him there, usually at night when it wasn't too hot to be outside. He's so much different now - he outgrew that to become the happy and fun baby that smiles so brightly today (though you wouldn't know it from today's pictures, sadly!)
Enough reminiscing - Alex woke up at 5, like I said, and we hung out & played until Nana (my mom, in case you didn't know) was up & ready to go to the zoo. We did the morning walk, but we
walked all the way through the zoo to the other side, and we stopped at several spots for animal viewing. First we stopped at the gibbon's cage, where two gibbons curiously looked down on us as they hung down from near the top of their cage (right up in the front, too.) Alex noticed them, too, and squealed at them, delightedly (if that's a real word?) Then we passed the panda area, and mom convinced me to turn around and go back to see if they were out. Despite signs saying they were off exhibit, they were in fact all (mom, dad, and baby) out. Dad in his own area, eating bamboo, mom and baby in their area, mom eating bamboo and baby hanging out in a tree. The baby climbed around a bit, then descended & went over to the mom. They were adorable, and Alex was even able to find them amusing, despite significant distance.Then home, breakfast, and nap. Slept for 2 hours (I slept for at least one of those, too,) then lunchtime and playing at home. Alex has really learned to play with his big purple ball - today he batted it from his toy area, down the hallway, and back to the living room! Very pleased with himself, and we were, of course, impressed.
Then we briefly took him to our building's pool where he splashed his feet in the water as I held him, sitting on the edge of the pool. He loved that - tomorrow we will attempt to go to Jill's pool for a real swim - sort of.
Second nap was 2+ hours, then I took him to the park briefly to slide a bit, then back home for dinner. Jill joined us for dinner, and Angela did too, of course. Tough to get him to bed today, but finally Jill was able to get him to sleep. I hypothesize that Alex misses his mom, especially at bed time, and he's probably tired of dad putting him in bed all the time! Or...who knows?We are trying to feed Alex more bland/low fiber foods to see if that helps, but he seems to be improving anyway. It's less clear if his rash is clearing up, really, or not. And he's stuffier than ever - maybe a cold, along with a food allergy?
