Some preholiday DC pics

Okay, the holidays are a remarkably busy time of year... while working on holiday cards I tried to look up some addresses and one thing led to another... now we're on facebook and discovering old friends. So... that's what's been going on with our limited "free" time when we would have posted to the blog. Apologies, we will be more vigilant about the blog.

The Sun before we left DC there was a fire in our building- lots of drama and excitement! A little scary- it was 3 apartments down the hall from us. Thankfully nobody was hurt! The hallway was filled with thick black smoke, people were banging on apartment doors evacuating people out of the building, there were at least 5 fire trucks (not sure how many were in the back of the building). They put up two ladders- one in front, one in back. Alex watched the fire trucks, the firemen going up the stairs with the big long hose, he watched the hose get all round... everyone from the building was sent across the street- we wandered about, saw some neighbors. We actually ran into Jeff , Xan and Jeff's mom very randomly. It was so bitterly cold old, Rory had no socks or shoes and Alex had no sweater (though he did have his jacket)- we managed to get to our car (after the fire was out and trucks had started to leave) and went to Grandma Jill's house to get warm.

The next day we went to NYC, our drive lasted 7 1/2 hours (yeah yeah, it's a four hour drive when you don't have hysterical children and long breaks). Multiple holiday celebrations and Rory's 1 year birthday later... there's a lot to blog!!! So, without further ado... some pics.

It was great to run into you though -- Xan and I are definitely stopping over your place after church one of these days. Let me know when you get back into town.

Oh yes, and for the record: there were three more firetrucks behind your building, including another one with the ladder extended. Xan talked about it for daaaays.

(And happy new year!)
