Hippo Park

NYC was great- we had a good time and got to see family again after all these months. I can't recall when we were in NYC last... it's been a long time! We loved seeing and reconnecting with family while there. We were sad not to connect with many friends but will definitely be back in August and hope to connect then! Now that Rory has been given the stamp of apprval to travel by her surgeon, we hope to make it to NYC and perhaps venture to California to see more family soon!

Alex was so excited to go to hippo park again. In DC he asks to go there. Once we took him to turtle park and he kept saying he meant he wanted to go to hippo park and asked us wehre hippo park was. Hippo Park is a fantastic playground around 91st st in Riverside Park at the bottom of a hill. It has two gated swing areas (one for big kids and one for little kids), two different jungle gyms for different ages, a huge sandbox and of course, the hippo water features... giant hippos and small hippos- some hippos spray water, others are there for climbing (and washing- a favorite activity), rock fountain with sculptures of animals and lots of benches, trash cans and bathrooms (yeeha!)...oh, and SHADE- lots of giant trees shading the playground. Really fabulous playground. Can you tell the adults are just as excited about this playground as the kids are? Not sure when it was fixed up, but it certainly wasn't this nice when Angela was growing up in the city. Actually lots of playgrounds are being fixed up all over the city and they are being fixed up really nicely, well planned, good variety of play structures, water features, sand boxes, benches. Strangely, the NYTimes recently published an article on playgrounds in NYC and I don't believe it mentioned hippo park... that's okay. It's usually really crowded and the publicity would probably just make it more so! Anyway, here are some pics this great playground utopia- oh wait, just of Alex at one of the water areas he loves.

Great climbing! I think he's ready to give rock-climbing a try!
