Alex has been asking to go to school- we think he misses his friends and he really does enjoy playing with other kids. While he isn't going to be starting school right away, we did get into a cooperative pre-school (we've also been wait-listed at NCRC- a fancy schmancy private preschool that really is incredible). For those who don't know, DC's park and recreations runs a cooperative pre-school play group. Some of the park facilities have structures that can serve as a classroom. They provide an instructor and the cooperative part is that the parents have to come in some number of times each month to help teach the kids. This keeps the cost down ($7 per day rather than $10,000 for the year) and allows for a very interactive and diverse experience. We got into the Mitchell Park (S street playground) cooperative and to keep the adult child ration at 1:5, I think we'll have to go in once a week. We've heard such good things about this program and we've met the teacher a number of times and she's great with the kids. Even better, this is the school that Alex keeps asking to go to... ! Enough prattle, here are some pics!
Lafayette Park (blocks from Jill's old house) great park, great water feature- we may make this our summer Tues evening get together location now that Jonah's treehouse is over! Alex playing the xylophone...
And held a puppet show... Peter, Rory and Angela were the audience. Tamra and Tess put on most of the show while Alex pressed the bunny's tummy to make it talk as the background music (I guess). He's fascinated by things that make noise and music- especially stuffed animals and such because we don't have any in our house
