Ah, sleep deprivation... this post may not wind up making any sense- I'm so tired right now I could barf.
So Thurs Rory was really fussy, not eating well- cried a lot (this upset Alex quite a bit) after Alex went to bed we went to change her colostomy bag and saw that she had not only prolapsed some more, but that it was purple. So, a quick call to Jill to come over to stay in the apt with Alex while he slept (we also tried our neighbor) then off to the ER. A little Morphine and a difficult reduction but at the bedside, not in the operating room, they decided to admit her overnight. In the morning the surgery team decided to have her just breastfeed and continue to observe and consult with GI. They wanted to make sure she didn't prolapse again, confirm that she was eating well, peeing and pooping before sending her home. Her surgeon would like to move her surgery up (from April 15) because he believes this will happen more frequently. There will be some discussion between her surgeon and her GI doctor- we'll see. Anyway, she did well over the course of the day and they decided she would be okay to go home and we will touch bases on Monday. In the meantime we have to minimize things that make her prolapse- like crying (ummm, she's a baby... right?)
In the meantime, Alex went to a "party" in the morning with Lila at a neighbor's house (but the neighbor's kid was at school...?) and had a great time. Then in the afternoon he went to the park with Jill, Tamra, Tess (and two others?) planted pansies and had an easter egg hunt. After Rory was discharged we picked Alex up at the playground and he was very excited about tearing up grass, seeing a long worm, eating chocolate (of course) and his great day. He had such a great fun day with friends who helped us out at the last second. Actually, it was probably a lot more fun than if he had spent the day with us!
These have not been easy times for us and we are, once again, awed and touched by the generosity of our friends.
