Another move- text only

It's been a few days since we've updated the blog- things have been a little busier but we will do another update soon with some pictures.

Rory was moved from the NICU to the surgical inpatient ward on Monday. She has not had surgery- there is no scheduled date for suregery at this time- her clinical picture will help determine when she will have surgery. She was transfered to the surgical unit because she is stable and her care at this point is essentially IV antibiotics, bowel preparation and working on getting her eating again. The thought was that the surgical ward nurses are used to managing this type of case.

Rory is in a private room- it's huge, (if you want to visit give us a ring- we can actually use our phones now and visiting rules are much more relaxed Rm East 505) and as is true for most inpatient wards, there is no bedside nurse (the NICU had one nurse to two patients 24 hours, plus tech and aides they didn't encourage staying 24/7 there due to space). Which means, when we're not in the room with her, she's alone. She's also on the monitor so they can't just bring her out to the nurse's station to watch her if we go somewhere. Sooooo, we are there 24/7 now.

The great thing is Alex has been able to come and visit a few times, he is talking about his baby sister again (he stopped for a while when she didn't come home AND we started spending a lot of time away). Rory was allowed to start eating early Weds morning, but she didn't show much interest. Once she is eating well and the surgeons are not concerned about infection (she still has an elevated WBC, continues on triple antibiotics) we will get to go home before the surgery. If all goes well- perhaps as early as this weekend.

Alex is much happier now that some of his classes have started again. Monday, we took him to tumbling class and then the playground- he had an exciting surprise- Emmitt was in his class (as a trial he's signing up for a different time slot). In the evening Alex visited at the hospital, he was very excited to run around the room and explore. He got to see baby sister, mama, dada AND nana. He was also extremely excited by the ice machine and crunching on pieces of ice.

This weather has been unbelievable- it went up close to 70 degrees I think! We got to spend a little time outside. Tues he went to the zoo with Noah, Erin, Owen, Sanda, Kieran and Coreen then Tues night was Jonah's treehouse. with the big group dinner. It was really nice to see everyone again after the holiday break! Weds he got to hang out with grandma Jill and the weather was still incredibly warm so Alex got to go to the playground and run around. Weds night we hung out at the hospital, Alex enjoyed the big playroom then we went home and there was a present for him- some giant cardboard blocks which he loves.
